Forum on modern slavery and the exploitation of human beings
In Constantinople, the Queen of Cities, a very important forum on modern slavery and the exploitation of human beings took place between the 6th and the 7th of February. The Forum, with the title “Sins Before Our Eyes, was organized by the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Church of England.
During the Forum, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and His Grace Archbishop Justin Welby of Canterbury greeted the participants. Those attending were church officials and professionals involved in this particular area of dealing with the plight of modern slavery. All the speakers stressed the need to combat this phenomenon and to raise a common voice of support for the victims dispersed in every corner of the universe.
At the conclusion of the Forum, the Ecumenical Patriarch and the Archbishop of Canterbury signed a joint statement condemning modern slavery.
Also taking part in this Forum was the Coordinator of the Patriarchal Network.
