Wisdom and understanding – the foundations of prudence
“Wisdom has built her house, she has set up her seven pillars.
She has slaughtered her beasts, she has mixed her wine, she has also set her table. She has sent out her maids to call from the highest places in the town: ‘Whoever is foolish let him turn away from Me and whoever wants understanding, Come, eat of My bread and drink the wine that I have mingled for you.’
Leave folly and you will live forever. Seek wisdom and achieve understanding through knowledge.
Someone that chastises evil people will bring dishonor upon one’s self and a person that rebukes an impious person will disgrace one’s self. Do not rebuke evil Men so they will not hate you; exam a wise Man so that he or she will come to love you. Give an opportunity to a wise person and he or she will become wiser; instruct a just person and he and she will receive more instruction.
Wisdom is the beginning of the fear of the Lord and the counsel of saints is understanding. To know the law is the character of a sound mind. For in this way you shall live a long life and years of life will be added to you.
If you be wise for yourself, you will be wise for your neighbor; if you go on to wicked ways, you will be alone.“
