A culture of “anti-thinking”
A culture of “anti-thinking”
A culture of “anti-thinking”
We live in a culture of “anti-thinking” (a culture that is opposed to any process that engenders thought formation) *. Many parents have not grown out of their own adolescence and, therefore, are not able to be consistent in the way they communicate and implement rules and standards. On the other hand, being that they cannot place any restrictions on their child, they do not cultivate in them the ability to wait, to anticipate. By doing so, they trap their child into a state where the child is not open to the possibility of acquiring thinking (“σκέψη”) **. (Listen to the presentation here)
* “anti-thinking”- “αντι-σκέψη”: opposed to thinking; the unwillingness to process thoughts, to contemplate, to idealize, to reason, to introspect.
** “thinking” – “σκέψη”: not only the ability to think but the ability to process thought content; the ability to put a perspective on things within and outside of one’s self with the use of logic and introspection.
