What we call “philanthropic work”
What we often label as “philanthropic work” has become a “product for consumption” and is used as a way to compete with others that produce the same “product”. Many times, those of us that make up the Church have the tendency to enter a competition with the state and other philanthropic agencies, in which each party tries to show that their “product” is better than the other’s. This competition has its roots in vain-glory. As St. John Chrysostom says, wherever there is sickness of vainglory, love cannot be given because there is hardness [of heart].”
