The Direction that Genetics is Taking Today
The direction in which the area of genetics is taking today is directed more to the “correction” of nature rather than towards the understanding of nature. Moreover, this is the basis and root of intense speculation around biotechnical innovations. The idea of the “correction” of nature and the very beginning of the “construction” of genetic material, which has been promoted by biotechnology, aims at the self-realization of man, which of course could mean his very self-destruction, especially when it oversteps nature’s boundaries. This constitutes blasphemy, according the ancient Greek meaning of the word. This attitude clearly finds itself on the opposite end of another stance of life held by the Fathers of the Church, especially when they refer to the reasons of beings. These reasons, which are virtuous acts of God’s will and meaning, make up the morphological principle of beings. In regard to God’s fore- knowledgeable power, each being has perfection within its own reason for existence”.
