The good that we do for our fellowman
In our times, where a spirit of activism dominates in face of today’s economic crisis, it would be good to remember the words of St. Maximus the Confessor who tells us. ”There are many naturally good things that men do which are not good for some reason. For instance fasting, vigil, prayer, chanting, hospitality, are essentially good, but when they are done out of vainglory, they are not good. For all that we do, God exams their purpose, if we do them for Him or for another reason.”
